The Owl House is a lovely, very comfortably furnished 3 bedroom self-catering house situated 150km north from Cape Town on the West Coast in Kersbosstrand, Dwarskersbos. It is located a minutes walk from the endless pristine beach which is perfect for all day walking and cycling at low tide. The house has an inverter and battery that powers all of the ceiling lights, wifi, Tv and fridges. There is a gas hob.
The main bedroom with a queen-sized bed has an en-suite. The 2nd bedroom also has a queen-size bed and the 3rd bedroom has 2 single beds. The 2nd and 3rd bedrooms share a full bathroom. Both bathrooms have heaters installed. Electric blankets are on the beds during winter. Bedding and bath towels are provided. Please bring your own beach towels.
The kitchen has a fridge/freezer, a microwave oven and a 4 plate gas hob with electric oven as well as a filter coffee machine, a kettle and a toaster. In the separate scullery is a washing machine and a dishwasher. It is fully kitted out with cutlery, crockery, pots and pans. There is also an iron and an ironing board. T-towels, washing up cloths and dishwashing liquid is supplied.
The open plan living area is very comfortably furnished and there is a 6 seater dining room table. There is a large woodstove which will keep the house cosy and warm in winter. The Braai Room is large with a built in braai and a six seater table and chairs. A braai grid, braai rack and braai tools are provided. There are stacker doors which open up to allow the sounds of the ocean in. There is a lovely view of the sea from the stoep. The stacker doors can be closed to enable you to braai even if the weather is foul. There is DSTV (Hotel Bouquet) and free Wi-Fi. There is good cell-phone reception. The cottage is a No-Smoking zone but guests are welcome to smoke outside. There is safe off-road parking behind the house for 2 vehicles.
In Dwarskersbos there are 2 cafe's which sell food and there is also a bottle store. There are 2 restaurants, The See-Kaia and Deli on Main, a hairdresser, an interior décor shop and a laundromat. There is a large supermarket in Laaiplek and a shopping mall in Vredenburg. For bird watching and fresh water fishing the berg river estuary is 10 mins drive away in Velddrif. The region boasts abundant bird life. Look out for pelicans, lesser and greater flamingos, blue cranes, herons, the endangered oystercatcher and the European bee-eater. The Rocherpan Nature Reserve with it's bird hides is a 10 minute drive away in the direction of Elands Bay. There are 4x4 routes in the area as well as many gravel roads for mountain bikers. Unfortunately, pets are not allowed.
